Software Patents on Sunday

Read Richard Stallman’s speech on software patents yesterday.

You can find it

here.

Have to say he presents a very scary picture of software patents.

Since most of the work that Indian software companies do is outsourcing,

twenty years down the line India may find itself in really really deep shit

over any products that we develop.

We may not exactly have much freedom to develop stuff.

Would probably be stiffled by these damn patent laws.

Is there any good law school in India somewhere.

I’m seriously thinking of dabbling in Law for my masters. The way things are it looks like getting me some money at

least.

Saw James “”"Jimmy”^” Anderson’s bowling against Pakistan

yesterday. Hung the Pakis out to dry. Wonderful display of outswingers

and inswingers. realy amazing cool superb halalife bowling. India’s match

is on at PietrMaritzburg (the town of Rhodes). I do wish he were there

pepping up cricket. What a loss it’s been.

Think I’ll spend today writing assembly, reading Dave Barry and fixing

boot sectors of my box. All updates shall be at eight

Brand New day starts with vim

Hey yey! Yes it’s just another bright new day! And well…. the feeling

of typing it out in vim with the cool black screen of a Linux console beyond, is something like meditating. And yes! Linux terminals (not x terms but the original consoles) is one that brings peace to the mind. You feel calm, detached from the world, and yet so connected to it. And the feeling of power is a heady one.

You don’t need to rely on anybody’s skeleton of gui to extract information. You are a digital Indian. One who can ride in without saddles. bareback across many an indian plain. Yes! sireee…. I love my linux console. I loved it in 1024×768 resolution and I still love it at 640×480.

For the uninitiated or the uninformed vim happens to be the zen of all editors. I don’t like emacs a lot cos’ it litters my folders with too many #files

but vim thankfully hides all that as .files. I am using Perl to generate all the templates. I think it’s the best language of all times except for OO, where Ruby scoores heavy. and Linux rocks. Windows don’t even come close

Reminds me. What’s with Slashdot. For the past week they have tended to focus on some psychological aspects like loneliness and some solid advice on how to get geeks to date. I think as the 80’s techie bunch matures the topics are switching track. Soon enough diapers shall be discussed. Not a problem though, it’s informative.

Anyway it’s a brand new day! Woops! I think this should have been a morning post. Got our Microcontroller CLRI here we come….

Probably last post for the day

Sobering thought today…. If I write this for a really long time, these guys are gonna pester me to make some sort of payment instead of it being free. Agh!!!!!#@#$#$@#.

Only hope is to somehow to start earning and that very quickly so that I can purchase the stuff

Anyway here’s some stuff to ponder! All this HTML padding is unecessary. Couldn’t I just meta mark it or is it meta marked already? Would it be able to extract all these pieces now with future perl code? I am having great difficulty with just getting upto scratch extracting my mail out of all those oodles of HTML. Anyway long live this fine art of blogging.

Major sleep deproved

HTML is a curious format for this work. I have just noticed that the head of the document has almost nothing while the body is where all the real work goes into. Mimicks a human body accurately. If you try editing it out in vim. Erasing the head causes the body to turn blue. Hmm…

You know even sleep deprived I can make out that this ain’t too fabulous an observation. Anyway what a bitch of two weeks. It’s been all travel for a measly measly microcontroller board. And now that we have got it it looks like closing up the project for the CLRI people.

But travel is a shitty bore. I just was calculating figures, and found that for most office goers the whole thing is like silly, I mean they are on their butts for 80% of their lifetime. While other than sportsmen most people fare at around 70% of time on their butts. I am taking up a job as a long distance runner.
